Well what can I say about this half? It’s interesting that’s for sure.
Ok lets start with our formation. We came into the game believing we were playing under a 4-4-2, but we’re definitely playing a 4-4-1-1. Adebayor is constantly playing right behind the striker, and he’s running sideways a lot, right across the field. Near the end it could be noticed Adebayor and Defoe had switched roles. This could be due to our constant crossing going to no-one, but Ade is better at playing that role and holding up the play. A much better performance by him compared to the Swansea game.
Our build up play is something I’ve been harping on about all season, and we seem to have finally perfected. Not just that but our expansion play as well. It’s much faster and much crisper. Our problem today is penetration, no-one wants to take someone on or make that run for us to put the ball through. We’re constantly playing on the last line of defenders but we can’t break them down.
Onto Dawson, at the start he seemed up for it, and I thought I was going to have to eat my words. Sadly I was mistaken. He’s constantly been caught out in the wrong position, or gone for the tackle too early, and I’m noticing him just walking back, no desire to get back. He’s struggling with the high line in my opinion.
Vertonghen, doing better at getting back but still being caught out a bit at the back when going forward. I don’t understand why he’s going so far forward, needs to learn to play a lot more like Walker in the attacking sense.
Also only 2 shots out of 6 on target, we need more shots and we need to be more accurate. Ok this took me nearly the whole 15 minutes to write, they’re about to come back out.
COME ON YOU SPURS!
