Harry Redknapp has confirmed he is close to becoming QPR’s new manager.Mark Hughes was sacked by the club on Friday and former Spurs boss Redknapp quickly became favourite to take over.“Hopefully we can get it done tonight, there shouldn’t be any problems,” he said, speaking shortly after 2230 GMT on Friday.A spokesman for QPR had earlier told BBC Sport that talks would continue by phone on Friday night and potentially into Saturday.The London side face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, and will be led by Hughes’s former assistants Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki.QPR chief executive Philip Beard left Loftus Road on Friday evening and would not confirm whether or not 65-year-old Redknapp would be Hughes’s successor.“It’s too early to say,” he said. “We’re going to work hard to make the right decision for QPR and the fans.“A difficult decision has been made, now we’ve got to focus on finding a successor.”He has been out of management for five months after being dismissed from his role at Spurs in June.Redknapp briefly held an advisory position at League One Bournemouth and was named as a possible successor to Oleg Blokhin as Ukraine coach by the country’s national federation on Tuesday. Redknapp’s agent has recently returned from Ukraine.QPR are bottom of the Premier League table and are without a win in their opening 12 games.Four points adrift of 19th place, they are in the same position Tottenham were when Redknapp took charge at White Hart Lane in October 2008.
